It means being a creative partner with diverse communities that reflect a changing California.
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) wanted to be a better resource for people to come together so they could engage in the process of understanding their neighborhoods and their identities, and at the same time engage them and make them part of the museum. And in doing so, connect to their personal creativity, and then be able to express it in their cultural identity.
I was chosen to represent three years of work that OMCA did, based on a grant they received, so that they could serve their neighbors better. With this, I made a short film using photographs and videos that they acquired during this time.
